David Allen of Jefferson, N.Y., received the Ray K. Glass Studio Fellowship during Honors Convocation held on April 30. The fellowship is awarded to a student who has mastered superior glass blowing techniques and demonstrated strong leadership skills.

Alison Halstead Honored by Hartwick College

Alison Halstead of Oneonta, N.Y., received the Kay WalkingStick Award during Honors Convocation held on April 30. This award is given by Professor Emeritus of Art Phil Young in honor of the celebrated contemporary Cherokee artist Kay WalkingStick. It is given to a rising senior whose work embodies consistently outstanding accomplishment in painting. Additionally, Halstead received the Vice President's Purchase Prize. The black and white painting, titled Nina, will be displayed in the Office of Academic Affairs for a year before being added to the College archives.

Bailey Ernst '25 of Delhi, N.Y., received the Jaune Quick-to-See Smith Award during Honors Convocation held on April 30. This award is given by Professor Emeritus of Art Phil Young in honor of the renowned contemporary Flathead-Salish artist and activist Jaune Quick-to-See Smith. It is given to a senior whose painting and multimedia work has been outstanding in experimentation and in visual strength.

This endowment was established in 1992 in honor of Dr. Philip S. Wilder, Jr., president of Hartwick College from 1977 to 1992 and his wife, Barbara F. Wilder. This scholarship is awarded to a rising senior whose career at Hartwick exemplifies outstanding leadership, campus citizenship and strong academic performance.

The scholarship recognizes the importance and value of including students from the broadest range of backgrounds, ethnicities, and life experiences in our learning community and is awarded annually to a student with a distinctive perspective, grounded in life experience, who is committed to enriching the campus community by bringing diverse perspectives from communities within and outside the United States to Hartwick. The scholarship also includes a stipend for a faculty mentor.

Tianna Wyskowski Honored by Hartwick College

Tianna Wyskowski '25 of Vestal, N.Y., was presented with two awards during Honors Convocation held on April 30. Wyskowski was awarded The Stephen L. Green '59 American Governance Award. Established in 2012 by Stephen L. Green '59, PM'05 to challenge students to not only strive for the best academically, but to also become informed and engaged citizens in our democracy. This award goes to a student submitting the top research essay on a current public policy challenge. Additionally, Wyskowski received the H. Claude Hardy Award in Sociology. Named for the late Professor Emeritus H. Claude Hardy, the award honors outstanding seniors in sociology.

Runyararo Chaora Earns Multiple Academic Honors at Hartwick College

Runyararo Chaora '25 of Harare, Zimbabwe, was recognized for her academic achievements during Honors Convocation held on April 30. Chaora received the Lynn S. Kanter Memorial Award, established by Dr. Robert J. Kanter '66 to honor a student who demonstrates a commitment to their chosen field, achievement acknowledged by a committee of faculty and staff, and the integration of the liberal arts into their education and life goals. She was honored with the American Chemical Society Award, which recognizes outstanding work by a senior in chemistry or biochemistry. Chaora also earned the David A. Diener Mathematics Achievement Award. Established by the Department of Mathematics in honor of Dr. David Diener, professor of mathematics from 1968 to 2000, the award recognizes mathematics majors for excellence in the field.

Detweiler and his wife, Carol, the award supports international students who demonstrate educational commitment through academic achievement and who have financial need in order to remain at and graduate from Hartwick College.

Established by the family and friends of Edna "Perrie" Perrine Saxton '53, a former nursing professor and department chair, the scholarship supports a rising junior or senior nursing student in either the three- or four-year degree program who demonstrates academic excellence and a commitment to improving community health. Additionally, Otoki received The Edith M. Lacey Memorial Nursing Scholarship. Established to memorialize Lacey, founder of the Hartwick nursing program and its director for nearly 18 years, the scholarship goes to a junior nursing student with demonstrated academic achievement and abilities (promise as a future nurse), personal deportment and other outstanding characteristics.

Established by a gift from Florence Bayreuther '39, a music education major during Dr. Leitzell's presidency at Hartwick College, the fund provides a scholarship to a senior woman music student chosen by the music faculty on the basis of need and ability who has demonstrated commitment to further music study.

Established by Hutchison's student, Michael H. Young '83, the award goes to a rising junior or rising senior geology major for academic travel purposes including conferences, J Term programs, or thesis research. Selection is based on academic performance and financial need.

Makenna Ventuleth Earns Multiple Awards at Hartwick College's Honors Convocation

Makenna Ventuleth '27 of Worcester, N.Y., was celebrated for her academic achievements during Honors Convocation held April 30. Ventuleth was recognized as an Andrew B. Saxton Undergraduate Fellow in Chemistry. All scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their respective disciplines. Rising seniors are nominated by faculty in their major departments based on academic achievement, leadership and character. She also received The Carol A. Bocher and Earl E. Deubler, Jr. H'91 Scholarship. Established in 1988 upon the retirement of Dr. Carol Bocher and Dr. Earl Deubler, this award is given to a current second year biology student who shows outstanding potential for a career in a field related to biology. In addition, Ventuleth was awarded the Dr. Elizabeth V. Lamphere '38, H'97 Scholarship. Established through Lamphere's estate, the scholarship is awarded to a junior chemistry major with a GPA of at least 3.5 who is active in the Langmuir Chemical Society, also known as the Chem Club.
