Lucille Walker '28 of Ithaca, New York, was recognized as an Andrew B. Saxton Undergraduate Fellow in Political Science during Honors Convocation on April 29. Fellows are selected by faculty in each department to honor outstanding achievement in their respective fields. They serve as student assistants within their major department and receive a tuition credit. In addition, Walker received the Dr. Elizabeth V. Lamphere '38, H'97 Scholarship during Honors Convocation on April 29. Established through Lamphere's estate, the scholarship is awarded to a junior chemistry major with an academic average of at least 3.5, who is active in the Langmuir Chemical Society, also known as the Chem Club. Lamphere was the retired chair of the Science Department at the Norwich City School System.

Makenna Ventuleth '27 of Worcester, New York was named Faculty Scholar in Biochemistry during Honors Convocation on April 29. Faculty Scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their respective disciplines. Rising seniors are nominated by the faculty of their major departments on the basis of academic achievement, leadership and character. Additionally, Ventuleth received the Dr. Robert E. & Mrs. MaryAlice Mansbach Scholarship. Established in 1991 by Charles Paul '72 and Carolyn Van Eps Paul '73 in honor of Dr. Robert E. Mansbach, a retired religion professor, the award is presented to a student who shows particularly outstanding growth in the spirit of liberal education. Ventuleth also earned the Dr. Elizabeth V. Lamphere '38, H'97 Scholarship. Established through Lamphere's estate, the scholarship is awarded to a junior chemistry major with an academic average of at least 3.5, who is active in the Langmuir Chemical Society, also known as the Chem Club. Lamphere was the retired chair of the Science Department at the Norwich City School System.

Maggie Van Valkenburgh Honored by Hartwick College

Maggie Van Valkenburgh '26 of Highland, New York, received the Omicron Rho Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau Award during Honors Convocation on April 29. This award is given by the International Honor Society of Nursing to a graduating senior who is a member of the Honor Society at Hartwick College, and who exhibits excellence in scholarship, service and nursing practice. At the Hartwick Hawks Athletic Awards Banquet on May 3, Van Valkenburgh earned the LeRoy "Sonny" House, Jr. Memorial Award, presented to a student who demonstrates exceptional enthusiasm and dedication to Hartwick Athletics while also serving the campus community. Van Valkenburgh, a member of the women's tennis team, had one of the most decorated careers in program history. A Nursing and Spanish major, Van Valkenburgh helped lead the Hawks to four regular season titles, three Empire 8 Championships, and a perfect 35-0 conference record in singles and doubles play combined. Off the court, she compiled an impressive resume of leadership and academic accomplishments.

Rising seniors are nominated by the faculty of their major departments on the basis of academic achievement, leadership and character. Additionally, Stanavich received The Edith M. Lacey Memorial Nursing Scholarship. Established to memorialize Lacey, founder of the Hartwick nursing program and its director for nearly 18 years, the scholarship goes to a junior nursing student with demonstrated academic achievement and abilities, promise as a future nurse, personal deportment and other outstanding characteristics. Stanavich also earned the E. Perrie Saxton '53 Scholarship. Established by the family and friends of former nursing professor and department chair Edna "Perrie" Perrine Saxton, the scholarship supports a rising junior or senior nursing student in either the three- or four-year degree program with demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to improve the health of their community.

Meer Singh Honored by Hartwick College

Meer Singh '28 of Oneonta, N.Y., was named winner of the Anna Sonder Prize of the Academy of American Poets during Honors Convocation on April 29. The prize was established in 1978 by the late Otto Sonder, professor emeritus of sociology, to recognize the best poem written by a Hartwick College student. It is awarded annually under the auspices of the Academy of American Poets in New York City, and honors the memory of Sonder's mother, Anna, who died that same year.

Maria Serra Restrepo '26 of Cali, Colombia, received the Alice Dornet Award in Economics during Honors Convocation on April 29. The award was established to recognize outstanding academic achievement by students in economics. Madeline Schiller Honored by Hartwick College

Madeline Schiller '27 of New Lisbon, New York, received the Edith M. Lacey Memorial Nursing Scholarship during Honors Convocation on April 29. Established to memorialize Lacey, founder of the Hartwick nursing program and its director for nearly 18 years, the scholarship goes to a junior nursing student with demonstrated academic achievement and abilities, promise as a future nurse, personal deportment and other outstanding characteristics. Additionally, Schiller was presented the Gladys Brooks Nursing Scholarship. This award goes to a student enrolled in the Three-Year Bachelor's Degree Program or the 18-month Accelerated Program. Students are selected based on educational achievement, leadership and academic ability. At the Hartwick College Student Leadership Awards Ceremony on April 21, Schiller was recognized with the Residential Life SRA of the Year distinction. Each spring, the College honors students for their contributions to the community during the Student Leadership Awards Ceremony.
