Sara VanValkenburg of Oneonta, NY was recognized with the Excellence in Education award during Hartwick College's annual Honors Convocation, celebrated on May 1. The award is presented to a graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to teacher preparation.

Sarah Kipruto of Nairobi, Kenya, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's Honors Convocation on May 3. Kipruto was named a Faculty Scholar in Mathematics. Faculty Scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their discipline. Rising seniors are nominated by the faculty in their major departments on the basis of academic achievement, leadership and character. Kipruto was also awarded the Dr. Ronald M. Brzenk Endowed Scholarship. Established in his honor by former student John C. Doolittle, the scholarship is awarded to a continuing mathematics major for outstanding academic achievement and professional promise in mathematics or a mathematics-related career.

Tristani Makharashvili of Tbilisi, Georgia, was awarded a John Hartwick Scholarship (JCH), the highest distinction Hartwick can confer, during the College's Honor's Convocation on May 3. Established by the Hartwick College Board of Trustees in 1967 on the recommendation of then-president Frederick M. Binder, the award is given to rising seniors nominated by the faculty of their major departments and based on academic achievement, leadership and character. Students nominated to compete for the JCH Scholarship are named Faculty Scholars. From among the Faculty Scholars, six are selected by the College's Scholarship Awards Committee to receive the JCH Scholarships. Beginning in 1997, in honor of the 30th anniversary of the scholarship, each JCH Scholar receives a medallion, which is to be worn at commencement and other appropriate academic occasions. The names of this year's JCH scholars will join those of the 299 previous winners on a plaque located in the foyer of Hartwick's Stevens-German Library. In addition, each JCH Scholar receives a substantial tuition grant and an honored place among those who stand for the very best of Hartwick College. Makharashvili was named Faculty Scholar in Computer Science. All scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their respective disciplines. Rising seniors are nominated by the faculty of their major departments based on academic achievement, leadership, and character. Additionally, Makharashvili was presented with an Andrew B. Saxton Undergraduate Fellowship in Mathematics. A fellow is selected by the Hartwick faculty to recognize outstanding achievement. Fellows serve as student assistants in their major department and receive a tuition credit.

Chelsea Kotey of Accra, Ghana, was recognized as an Andrew B. Saxton Undergraduate Fellow in Biochemistry during Hartwick College's Honors Convocation on May 3. Fellows are selected by the Hartwick faculty to recognize outstanding achievement. They serve as student assistants in their major department and receive a tuition credit.

Diener Mathematics Achievement Award. Established by the Department of Mathematics for excellence in the field, it is given in honor of David Diener, professor of mathematics at Hartwick from 1968-2000. It recognizes mathematics majors for excellent work in their field.

Chaw Akari San of Yangon, Myanmar, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's Honors Convocation on May 3. San was presented with the Detweiler Global Fund Award, which is given to an international student who has demonstrated their educational commitment through academic achievement and who also has financial need to remain at and graduate from Hartwick. The award was established by Hartwick President Emeritus Richard A. Detweiler and his wife, Carol. San also received the Otto Steinbach Memorial Scholarship in Chemistry. Established in memory of Chemistry Professor Otto Steinbach by his wife, Grace Steinbach, Hartwick Class of 1938, and former student Elizabeth Lamphere, Class of 1938, the scholarship is awarded to a rising junior or senior chemistry or biochemistry major who has demonstrated high academic achievement. Additionally, San was given the Undergraduate Award for Achievement in Organic Chemistry, which is presented to a chemistry major with a B+ or higher GPA and outstanding performance in a two-semester organic chemistry sequence.

Chesachi Chisomaga Emeh of Lagos, Nigeria, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's Honors Convocation on May 3. Emeh received the H. Claude Hardy Award in Sociology. The award is named for the late Professor Emeritus H. Claude Hardy and honors outstanding seniors in sociology. Emeh was also recognized with the Duncan B. Smith Award for Exceptional Creativity in Theatre. The award is presented to a student who has produced exceptionally creative work for a theatre class or production. Recipients are selected by the theatre arts faculty and receive a seminal text in the subject. An Abraham L. Kellogg Oratorical Prize finalist, Emeh delivered his speech, "The Power of Name," during convocation. The Kellogg Prize is awarded to a graduating senior who delivers the best oratorical presentation as voted by the Hartwick faculty. He was named winner of the prize during the College's commencement ceremony on May 20.

Nuria Santos of Bilbao Vizcaya, Spain, was recognized with the Sanyo Scholarship during Hartwick College's Honors Convocation on May 3. The scholarship is awarded to an economics or business administration major who demonstrates outstanding academic leadership. It is presented jointly by the Hartwick College Departments of Economics, and Business Administration and Accounting.

Leah Tolley of Pittsford, NY, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's spring recognition ceremonies. At Honors Convocation held on May 3, Tolley was presented with the Linda S. French Memorial Award in Business Administration. The award was established in 1986 by the members of Hartwick's economics and business administration faculty in memory of Linda S. French, Class of 1985. This award is given to a graduating senior major who has been a leader in the department. During the College's Athletics Award Ceremony held on May 11, Tolley received the Philip S. Wilder Jr. Award for Academic Distinction, which is presented to athletes and/or managers of teams who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Tolley is a member of the Hawks field hockey team. .

Caitlyn Unger of Warwick, NY, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's spring recognition ceremonies. At Honors Convocation held on May 3, Unger received the E. Perrie Saxton Scholarship. The scholarship was established by the family and friends of former nursing professor and department chair, Edna "Perrie" Perrine Saxton, Class of 1953. The scholarship supports a rising junior or senior nursing student in either the three- or four-year degree program with demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to improve the health of their community. During the College's Athletics Award Ceremony held on May 11, Unger received the Philip S. Wilder Jr. Award for Academic Distinction, which is presented to athletes and/or managers of teams who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Unger is a member of the Hawks women's basketball team. .

Ashley Tricario of Hopewell Junction, NY, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's spring recognition ceremonies. At Honors Convocation held on May 3, Tricario was presented with the Diener Fellowship. It is awarded to a rising junior on the basis of high academic achievement in either computer or information science. Established by the Hartwick Department of Computer & Information Sciences, it is awarded for excellence in the field, and is given in honor of Dr. David Diener, professor of mathematics from 1968-2000. During the College's Athletics Award Ceremony held on May 11, Tricario received the Philip S. Wilder Jr. Award for Academic Distinction, which is presented to athletes and/or managers of teams who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Tricario is a member of the Hawks field hockey, and women's track and field teams. .

Arianna Thompson of Hogansburg, NY, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's spring recognition ceremonies. At Honors Convocation held on May 3, Thompson was presented with the Close Family Scholarship. Established by Mrs. Gertrude Close, the Close Family Scholarship is awarded to a student with high scholastic ability and demonstrated financial need. During the College's Athletics Award Ceremony held on May 11, Thompson received the Philip S. Wilder Jr. Award for Academic Distinction, which is presented to athletes and/or managers of teams who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Thompson is a member of the Hawks women's volleyball team.

Madilynne Smith of Morris, NY, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's spring recognition ceremonies. At Honors Convocation held on May 3, Smith was recognized as an Andrew B. Saxton Undergraduate Fellow in Spanish. Fellows are selected by the faculty to recognize outstanding achievement. Camila Ramos-Mercado of Ayer, MA, was recognized as an inductee into the Pi Kappa Lamba National Music Honor Society during Hartwick College's Honors Convocation held on May 3. Inductees are selected by the Music Department faculty to recognize outstanding musicianship and high academic achievement.

William Napierala of Endwell, NY, was presented with multiple awards during Hartwick College's spring recognition ceremonies. During Honors Convocation on May 3, Napierala was awarded the Chemical Rubber Company Press Chemistry Achievement Award, which is presented on the basis of student performance in general or accelerated chemistry courses. During the College's Athletics Award Ceremony on May 11, Napierala received the Philip S. Wilder Jr. Award for Academic Distinction, which is presented to athletes and/or managers of teams who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Napierala is a member of the Hawks men's soccer team.

Michael Schultz of Binghamton, NY, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's spring recognition ceremonies. At Honors Convocation held on May 3, Schultz was named a Faculty Scholar in History. Faculty Scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their discipline. Schultz also received the Most Valuable Player award for men's swimming and diving.

Kaitlyn Montgomery of Winthrop, NY, was recognized with the Tammy Linsner Memorial Award during Hartwick College's Honors Convocation held on May 3. The award is presented to a pre-med senior with a GPA of 3.6 or higher who has shown commitment, motivation, involvement, and leadership within the Hartwick community.

Daviti Meskheli of Lackawanna, NY, was named a Faculty Scholar in Political Science during Hartwick College's Honors Convocation held on May 3. Faculty Scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their discipline. Richard Mercurio of Smithtown, NY, was presented with multiple awards during Hartwick College's spring recognition ceremonies. During Honors Convocation on May 3, Mercurio was presented with the Richard K. Meeker Award in English. Established in memory of the late Professor Richard K. Meeker, the award recognizes an outstanding senior majoring in English. At the College's Athletics Award ceremony held on May 11, Mercurio received the True Blue Award, acknowledging him as a four-year letter winner. Mercurio is a Hartwick Hawks football team member.

Abigail McCleary of Monroe, NY, was recognized as a Faculty Scholar in Psychology during Hartwick College's Honors Convocation held on May 3. Austin Matlack-Grey of Norwich, NY, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's Honors Convocation on May 3. Matlack-Grey received the Elizabeth S. Hoopes Memorial Award. Established by Dr. and Mrs. Alban Hoopes in honor of his mother, Elizabeth, the award is presented to a history major who has an excellent academic record and is planning a career in teaching. Peyton Humphries of South Glen Falls, NY, was presented with multiple awards during Hartwick College's spring recognition ceremonies. During Honors Convocation on May 3, Humphries received the Dr. David "Hutch" Hutchinson Award. Awarded by Hartwick's Department of Geology and Environmental Sciences, it was established by Dr. Hutchinson's student, Michael H. Young, Class of 1983. It is given to a rising junior or rising senior geology major for academic travel purposes including conferences, January Term programs, or thesis research. Selection is based on academic performance and financial need. At the College's Athletics Award ceremony on May 11, Humphries received the Philip S. Wilder Jr. Award for Academic Distinction, which is presented to athletes and/or managers of teams who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Humphries is a member of the Hawks men's swimming and diving team.
