Billie Metcalf Honored by Hartwick College

Billie Metcalf '25 of Natick, Mass., recently received the Hartwick College Presidential Purchase Prize from President Jim Mullen. The award, recognizing Metcalf's mixed-media exhibit "Study of the Beast," includes a $500 cash prize. A piece from the exhibition will hang in the President's Office for a year before being added to the College Alumni Art Collection. Additional prizes included: Most Improved: Ash Rhodes '25 of McDonough, N.Y., and Alex Stanton '25 of Bovina Center, N.Y. Best in Show: Bailey Ernst '25 of Delhi, N.Y., for "Shadow Puppet."

Hartwick College Honors Excellence in Academics and Athletics

Sebastian Knowles '25 of Plano, Texas, and Kristen Vaccarelli '25 of Dix Hills, N.Y., each received the Frederick M. Binder H'85 Scholar-Athlete Award during Honors Convocation held on April 30. Established in memory of former Hartwick College President Dr. Frederick M. Binder, the prize honors a senior male and a senior female whose four years at Hartwick reflect a consistent commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics.

Jaylene Rodriguez Honored by Hartwick College

Jaylene Rodriguez '26 of Orlando, Fla., received the John F. Kingston '49 Award in Theatre during Honors Convocation held on April 30. Established by John Kingston '49, P'76 in memory of his son, Thomas, a scholarship goes to the student who is most deserving, as determined by the Theatre Department.

The prize, a seminal text in the subject, is given to the student selected by the Theatre Arts faculty who has produced outstanding design or technical work for a Theatre Arts class or production.

Carolina Lopez Granados '27 of Dallas, Texas, received the Socratic Award during Honors Convocation held on April 30. Instituted in 2001 by the Philosophy Department, the award recognizes a first- or second-year student who, in the judgment of the department, has demonstrated notable promise in textual comprehension and analysis, the ability to craft cogent written and oral arguments, and openness to constructive criticism.

Meagan Witte Honored by Hartwick College

Meagan Witte of Monroe, N.Y., was presented with two awards during Honors Convocation held on April 30. Witte received The Nursing Alumni Memorial Scholarship, awarded by the Alumni Association through its Nursing Committee to support a senior nursing student. Recipients are selected based on academic record, participation and potential as a member of the nursing profession. Additionally, Witte was presented The Gladys Brooks Nursing Scholarship. This award goes to a student enrolled in the Three-Year Bachelor's Degree Program or the 18-month Accelerated Program. Students are selected based on educational achievement, leadership and academic ability.

Benjamin Pauli '26 of East Greenbush, N.Y., and Madison Tobon '27 of Roxbury, N.Y., each received The Thurston J. Dox Memorial Scholarship in Music during Honors Convocation held on April 30. Dr. Thurston Dox was a member of the Music Department faculty from 1960 to 1995 and Director of the College Choir. The award is given annually to a music student who participates in the College Choir and whose vocal abilities best reflect the qualities Dox strove to develop in each of his students.

Oliver Forsha '27 of Loudon, N.H., was presented with two awards during Honors Convocation held on April 30. Forsha received The Robert E. Newnham '50, H'96 Mathematics Scholarship. in memory of Dr. Newnham, an award-winning scientist, inventor and educator, the scholarship supports a mathematics major demonstrating outstanding academic achievement, intellectual curiosity and the intent to pursue a professional career in the field of mathematics. Additionally, Forsha was awarded The Harry "Ed" Dorr '49 and Joan Ullman Dorr '51 Scholarship. Created through a bequest from the couple, both alumni and Hartwick grandparents, the award is given to a physics major selected by the Physics Department.

Molly Corbett '27 of Kings Park, N.Y., received the Dr. Ronald M. Brzenk Endowed Scholarship during Honors Convocation held on April 30. Established in Brzenk's honor by his former student, John C. Doolittle '80, the award is presented to a continuing mathematics major for outstanding academic achievement and strong professional promise in the field of mathematics or a related career.

Michael Pastore Honored by Hartwick College

Michael Pastore of West Babylon, N.Y., received three awards during Honors Convocation held on April 30. He earned the Mathematics Association of America Membership Award, presented to a mathematics major for high academic achievement and strong professional promise in a mathematics-related career. Pastore was also awarded the Richard J. Kohlmeyer and Edward Rayher Award, established in memory of two former Hartwick mathematics faculty members. It recognizes a mathematics major who has done outstanding work in the field. Additionally, he received the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Membership Award, which includes a yearlong membership in the Council and is awarded to a student showing exceptional promise in mathematics education.

Chloe Bartholomew Honored by Hartwick College

Chloe Bartholomew of Gansevoort, N.Y., received two awards during Honors Convocation held on April 30. She was presented with the Dornburgh Memorial Award in History, established in memory of Edmund Leigh Dornburgh Jr., a former student assistant in the History Department. The award honors the student with the highest academic average in the department. Bartholomew also received the Elizabeth S. Hoopes Memorial Award, which recognizes a history major with an excellent academic record who is planning a career in teaching.

Kedreonna Howard '27 of Syracuse, N.Y., received the Joan B. Gratz Prize in English during Honors Convocation held on April 30. The award goes to a rising junior majoring in English whose strong academic record and enthusiasm for the study of literature point to graduate work in English and a career as a highly successful teacher of English. Gratz was a Senior Professor of English at Hartwick; the prize recognizes her 32 years of dedicated teaching.
