Paige Witherbee '26 of Derry, New Hampshire, received the Richard K. Meeker Award in Creative Writing during Honors Convocation on April 29. Established in memory of the late Professor Richard K. Meeker, this award recognizes an outstanding senior majoring in Creative Writing.

Halle Wimette '26 of Fairfax, Vermont, received the H. Claude Hardy Award in Sociology during Honors Convocation on April 29. Named for the late Professor Emeritus H. Claude Hardy, this award honors outstanding seniors in sociology.

MacKenzie Wellington '28 of Watervliet, New York, was recognized as an Andrew B. Saxton Undergraduate Fellow in Spanish during Honors Convocation on April 29. Fellows are selected by faculty in each department to honor outstanding achievement in their respective fields. They serve as student assistants within their major department and receive a tuition credit. In addition, Wellington received the John Dewey Award, which recognizes an outstanding student who best exemplifies the philosophies and goals of the Education Department.

Brody Williams '29 of Alpine, New York, received the Helen & Howard Mayer Endowed Scholarship during Honors Convocation on April 29. Established in 1991, this award provides a scholarship for an academically able and financially deserving rising sophomore from western New York.

Leah Wallace '27 of Conroe, Texas, was recognized as an Andrew B. Saxton Undergraduate Fellow in Art during Honors Convocation on April 29. Ashely Wheelock '29 of Ilion, New York, received the Harriet Babcock '46 Nursing Scholarship during Honors Convocation on April 29. Established by Cadet Nursing Corps graduate Harriet Babcock '46, this award is presented annually to a non-traditional nursing student who demonstrates the professional values of altruism, autonomy, human dignity, integrity and social justice in clinical practice as well as high academic achievement and financial need.

Annika Zysik '28 of Waddington, New York, received the Outstanding First-Year Student in Biology award during Honors Convocation held on April 29. This award is given to the first-year biology student who has attained the highest cumulative average for the year.

Vaughn Wagnecz '26 of Milan, Pennsylvania, received the Arkell Hall Foundation Scholarship in Theatre during Honors Convocation on April 29. This award is presented to a Theatre Arts major who has consistently demonstrated excellence in the study of theatre and has contributed significantly to the program.

Lucille Walker '28 of Ithaca, New York, was recognized as an Andrew B. Saxton Undergraduate Fellow in Political Science during Honors Convocation on April 29. Fellows are selected by faculty in each department to honor outstanding achievement in their respective fields. They serve as student assistants within their major department and receive a tuition credit. In addition, Walker received the Dr. Elizabeth V. Lamphere '38, H'97 Scholarship during Honors Convocation on April 29. Established through Lamphere's estate, the scholarship is awarded to a junior chemistry major with an academic average of at least 3.5, who is active in the Langmuir Chemical Society, also known as the Chem Club. Lamphere was the retired chair of the Science Department at the Norwich City School System.

Makenna Ventuleth '27 of Worcester, New York was named Faculty Scholar in Biochemistry during Honors Convocation on April 29. Faculty Scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their respective disciplines. Rising seniors are nominated by the faculty of their major departments on the basis of academic achievement, leadership and character. Additionally, Ventuleth received the Dr. Robert E. & Mrs. MaryAlice Mansbach Scholarship. Established in 1991 by Charles Paul '72 and Carolyn Van Eps Paul '73 in honor of Dr. Robert E. Mansbach, a retired religion professor, the award is presented to a student who shows particularly outstanding growth in the spirit of liberal education. Ventuleth also earned the Dr. Elizabeth V. Lamphere '38, H'97 Scholarship. Established through Lamphere's estate, the scholarship is awarded to a junior chemistry major with an academic average of at least 3.5, who is active in the Langmuir Chemical Society, also known as the Chem Club. Lamphere was the retired chair of the Science Department at the Norwich City School System.

Alexandra Vasquez '28 of East Meadow, New York, received the Peter D. Junemann '65 Memorial Award during Honors Convocation on April 29. Established by Dr. and Mrs. Henry R. Junemann in memory of their son, the income is to provide a scholarship to outstanding music majors.

Lizbeth Varela- Cordero '27 of Monroe, New York, was named Faculty Scholar in Nursing during Honors Convocation on April 29. Faculty Scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their respective disciplines. Rising seniors are nominated by the faculty of their major departments on the basis of academic achievement, leadership and character.

Maggie Van Valkenburgh '26 of Highland, New York, received the Omicron Rho Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau Award during Honors Convocation on April 29. This award is given by the International Honor Society of Nursing to a graduating senior who is a member of the Honor Society at Hartwick College, and who exhibits excellence in scholarship, service and nursing practice. At the Hartwick Hawks Athletic Awards Banquet on May 3, Van Valkenburgh earned the LeRoy "Sonny" House, Jr. Memorial Award, presented to a student who demonstrates exceptional enthusiasm and dedication to Hartwick Athletics while also serving the campus community. Van Valkenburgh, a member of the women's tennis team, had one of the most decorated careers in program history. A Nursing and Spanish major, Van Valkenburgh helped lead the Hawks to four regular season titles, three Empire 8 Championships, and a perfect 35-0 conference record in singles and doubles play combined. Off the court, she compiled an impressive resume of leadership and academic accomplishments.

Established to memorialize Lacey, founder of the Hartwick nursing program and its director for nearly 18 years, the scholarship goes to a junior nursing student with demonstrated academic achievement and abilities, promise as a future nurse, personal deportment and other outstanding characteristics.

Madison Tobon '27 of Roxbury, New York, received the Arkell Hall Foundation Scholarship in Music during Honors Convocation on April 29. This award honors a student who has demonstrated outstanding musicianship and achievement in the field.

Emmaray Z. Taylor '27 of Bronx, New York, received the Close Family Scholarship during Honors Convocation on April 29. Established by Mrs. Gertrude Close, this scholarship is awarded to a student with high scholastic ability and demonstrated financial need.

Anne Stanavich '27 of Amsterdam, New York was named Faculty Scholar in Nursing during Honors Convocation on April 29. Faculty Scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their respective disciplines. Rising seniors are nominated by the faculty of their major departments on the basis of academic achievement, leadership and character. Additionally, Stanavich received The Edith M. Lacey Memorial Nursing Scholarship. Established to memorialize Lacey, founder of the Hartwick nursing program and its director for nearly 18 years, the scholarship goes to a junior nursing student with demonstrated academic achievement and abilities, promise as a future nurse, personal deportment and other outstanding characteristics. Stanavich also earned the E. Perrie Saxton '53 Scholarship. Established by the family and friends of former nursing professor and department chair Edna "Perrie" Perrine Saxton, the scholarship supports a rising junior or senior nursing student in either the three- or four-year degree program with demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to improve the health of their community.

Kayleigh Soricelli '28 of Poughkeepsie, New York, received the Dr. David "Hutch" Hutchison Award in Geology during Honors Convocation on April 29. Established by his student, Michael H. Young '83, this award is presented to a rising junior or rising senior geology major for academic travel purposes including conferences, January Term programs, or thesis research. Selection is based on academic performance and financial need.

Tanner Sokol '29 of Hopewell Junction, New York, received the General Chemistry Achievement Award during Honors Convocation on April 29. This award is presented based on student performance in Chemistry 107 and 108, or Chemistry 109.

Rising seniors are nominated by the faculty of their major departments on the basis of academic achievement, leadership and character.

Meer Singh '28 of Oneonta, N.Y., was named winner of the Anna Sonder Prize of the Academy of American Poets during Honors Convocation on April 29. The prize was established in 1978 by the late Otto Sonder, professor emeritus of sociology, to recognize the best poem written by a Hartwick College student. It is awarded annually under the auspices of the Academy of American Poets in New York City, and honors the memory of Sonder's mother, Anna, who died that same year.

Maria Serra Restrepo '26 of Cali, Colombia, received the Alice Dornet Award in Economics during Honors Convocation on April 29. The award was established to recognize outstanding academic achievement by students in economics. Additionally, Serra Restrepo was presented the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants Award for Superior Scholarship in Taxation. This award is based upon the nomination of the accounting faculty.

Connor Schmitt '26 of Honesdale, Pennsylvania, received the Excellence in Education Award during Honors Convocation on April 29. This is presented to a graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to teacher preparation.

Madeline Schiller '27 of New Lisbon, New York, received the Edith M. Lacey Memorial Nursing Scholarship during Honors Convocation on April 29. Established to memorialize Lacey, founder of the Hartwick nursing program and its director for nearly 18 years, the scholarship goes to a junior nursing student with demonstrated academic achievement and abilities, promise as a future nurse, personal deportment and other outstanding characteristics. Additionally, Schiller was presented the Gladys Brooks Nursing Scholarship. This award goes to a student enrolled in the Three-Year Bachelor's Degree Program or the 18-month Accelerated Program. Students are selected based on educational achievement, leadership and academic ability. At the Hartwick College Student Leadership Awards Ceremony on April 21, Schiller was recognized with the Residential Life SRA of the Year distinction. Each spring, the College honors students for their contributions to the community during the Student Leadership Awards Ceremony.
