Angelina Maselli Honored by Hartwick College, NY

Angelina Maselli of Burlington, CT, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's spring recognition ceremonies. Maselli was named a Faculty Scholar in Biology during Hartwick College's Honors Convocation held on May 3. Faculty Scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their discipline. Rising seniors are nominated by the faculty in their major departments on the basis of academic achievement, leadership and character. Maselli was also recognized during the College's Athletics Award Ceremony held on May 11. A guard on the Hartwick Hawks women's basketball team, Maselli received the Most Valuable Player award.

Sebastian Knowles Honored by Hartwick College, NY

Sebastian Knowles of Plano, TX, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's spring recognition ceremonies. During the College's Honors Convocation held on May 3, he was recognized as an Andrew B. Saxton Undergraduate Fellow in Biology. A fellow is selected by the faculty to recognize outstanding achievement. Fellows serve as student assistants in their major department and receive a tuition credit. Knowles was also recognized during the College's Athletics Award Ceremony held on May 11. He received the Philip S. Wilder Jr. Award for Academic Distinction, which is presented to athletes and/or managers of teams who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Knowles is a Hartwick Hawks men's swimming and diving team member.

Noah Hurt Wins Highest Honor at Hartwick College, NY

Noah Hurt of West Hartford, CT, was awarded a John Hartwick Scholarship (JCH), the highest distinction Hartwick can confer, during the College's Honor's Convocation on May 3. Established by the Hartwick College Board of Trustees in 1967 on the recommendation of then-president, Frederick M. Binder, the award is given to rising seniors nominated by the faculty of their major departments and based on academic achievement, leadership and character. Students nominated to compete for the JCH Scholarship are named Faculty Scholars. From among the Faculty Scholars, six are selected by the College's Scholarship Awards Committee to receive the JCH Scholarships. Beginning in 1997, in honor of the 30th anniversary of the scholarship, each JCH Scholar receives a medallion, which is to be worn at commencement and other appropriate academic occasions. The names of this year's JCH scholars will join those of the 299 previous winners on a plaque located in the foyer of Hartwick's Stevens-German Library. In addition, each JCH Scholar receives a substantial tuition grant and an honored place among those who stand for the very best of Hartwick College. Hurt, who is pursuing studies in criminal justice, was also recognized as a Faculty Scholar from whom the JCH Scholars are chosen. All scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their respective disciplines. Rising seniors are nominated by the faculty of their major departments based on academic achievement, leadership, and character.

Kohlmeyer & Edward Rayher Award, which was established in memory of two former members of the Hartwick College mathematics faculty. It is presented to a freshman or sophomore mathematics major who has done outstanding work. She also received the Outstanding First-Year Student in Biology Award, the recipient of which has attained the highest cumulative average for the year.

Jackson Gilstrap of Jacksonville, FL, was recognized with the Keith A. Youngman Award in Economics during Hartwick College's Honors Convocation held on May 3. The award was established by Gerald and Candace Youngman in memory of their son. It is presented to a rising junior or senior economics major for an off-campus internship or January Term global experience. The recipient is selected by the economics faculty based on a demonstration of strong morals, an established work ethic, an enterprising spirit, engagement with the Hartwick College community and the community at large, and support for fellow students and the faculty of the department.

Elisabeth Fortin of State College, PA, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's Honors Convocation held on May 3. Fortin was named a Faculty Scholar in Nursing. Faculty Scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their discipline. Rising seniors are nominated by the faculty in their major departments on the basis of academic achievement, leadership and character. She was also awarded the Nursing Alumni Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded by the Hartwick College Alumni Association through its Nursing Committee for use during the senior year of study by a nursing student. Selection is based on academic record, participation, and potential as a member of the nursing profession. Hartwick has over 80 years of experience preparing nurses at the baccalaureate level. The broad liberal arts and sciences education that complements Hartwick's nursing program provides the communication, critical thinking, informed decision-making, and leadership skills the profession demands. Hartwick nurses are highly qualified, self-directed individuals who are able to thrive in both the present and a rapidly changing healthcare system of the future.

Louis Doherty of Portland, OR, was recognized with the Al Gallodoro Award for Outstanding Achievement in Musical Performance during Hartwick College's annual Honors Convocation held on May 3. Established in 2008 by the Hartwick College Music Department, the award is presented in memory of musician and faculty member Al Gallodoro. The recipient is selected by the faculty of the Music Department and is spotlighted as featured performer during the Honors Convocation ceremony. Doherty performed Valse Vanite by Rudy Wiedoeft on the alto saxophone. He was accompanied by Fideliz Sta. Brigida, Hartwick College Artist-in-Residence in piano.

The award was created in memory of Dr. Frederick M. Binder, former president of Hartwick College.

She was also awarded the Sarah Keyes Bresee Scholarship for Economics and Business Administration. Established by Sarah "Sally" Bresee in memory of her husband, Clyde F. Bresee, the scholarship is given to a deserving student with financial need who is studying in the departments of economics or business administration. This scholarship is presented jointly with the Hartwick College Department of Economics.

Kaleigh Brady honored by Hartwick College

Kaleigh Brady of Rexford, NY, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's annual Honors Convocation celebrated on May 3. Brady was recognized with the Dr. Charles Leitzell Music Award, which was established through a gift from Florence Bayreuther, Class of 1939, who was a music education major when Dr. Leitzell was president of Hartwick College. The fund provides a scholarship to a senior woman music student chosen by the music faculty on the basis of need and ability who has demonstrated commitment to further music study. Brady was also named a Faculty Scholar in Music. Faculty Scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their discipline. Rising seniors are nominated by the faculty of their major departments on the basis of academic achievement, leadership and character.

She was also named a Faculty Scholar in Music and Music Education. Faculty Scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their discipline. Rising seniors are nominated by the faculty of their major departments on the basis of academic achievement, leadership and character. Additionally, Collischonn was awarded the Thurston J. Dox Memorial Scholarship in Music. Dr. Thurston Dox was a Hartwick Music Department faculty member from 1960 to 1995 and Director of the College Choir. The award is given annually to a music student who participates in the College Choir and whose vocal abilities best reflect the qualities Dr. Dox strove to develop in each of his students.

Rebeka Alva of East Stroudsburg, PA, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's annual Honors Convocation, celebrated on May 3. She was honored with the Sarah Keyes Bresee Scholarship for Native America, African American or Hispanic American students. Established by Marilyn Keyes Roper in memory of her mother, Sarah Keyes Bresee, the scholarship is awarded to a second or third-year student who has created or implemented activities at Hartwick College that advance the awareness and appreciation of their heritage. Alva also received the Modern and Classical Languages Department Prize, which is given in recognition of outstanding work. During the Student Leadership Awards event held on April 13, Alva was recognized by Hartwick's Student Government Association with the Emerging Leader award.

Ross Arvin honored by Hartwick College

Ross Arvin of Richmondville, NY, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's annual Honors Convocation, celebrated on May 3. He was awarded the John Clemens Scholarship for Study in Business, which was established by alumni, friends, family and colleagues of Professor Emeritus John Clemens. It is awarded annually to a rising senior with financial need, demonstrated leadership, and a GPA of 3.5 or higher in both business administration and overall. Arvin was also honored as an Andrew B. Saxton Undergraduate Fellow. The fellows are selected by the faculty in each department to recognize outstanding achievement in their respective field. Fellows serve as student assistants in their major department and receive a tuition credit.
