Giovanna Wall '25 of Woodstock, N.Y., received the H. Claude Hardy Award in Sociology during Honors Convocation held on April 30. Named for the late Professor Emeritus H. Claude Hardy, the award honors outstanding seniors in sociology.

Tianna Wyskowski Honored by Hartwick College

Tianna Wyskowski '25 of Vestal, N.Y., was presented with two awards during Honors Convocation held on April 30. Wyskowski was awarded The Stephen L. Green '59 American Governance Award. Established in 2012 by Stephen L. Green '59, PM'05 to challenge students to not only strive for the best academically, but to also become informed and engaged citizens in our democracy. This award goes to a student submitting the top research essay on a current public policy challenge. Additionally, Wyskowski received the H. Claude Hardy Award in Sociology. Named for the late Professor Emeritus H. Claude Hardy, the award honors outstanding seniors in sociology.

Jake Thorry '25 of Sayville, N.Y., received the David A. Diener Mathematics Achievement Award during Honors Convocation held on April 30. Established by the Department of Mathematics in honor of Dr. David Diener, professor of mathematics from 1968 to 2000, the award recognizes mathematics majors for excellence in the field.

Runyararo Chaora Earns Multiple Academic Honors at Hartwick College

Runyararo Chaora '25 of Harare, Zimbabwe, was recognized for her academic achievements during Honors Convocation held on April 30. Chaora received the Lynn S. Kanter Memorial Award, established by Dr. Robert J. Kanter '66 to honor a student who demonstrates a commitment to their chosen field, achievement acknowledged by a committee of faculty and staff, and the integration of the liberal arts into their education and life goals. She was honored with the American Chemical Society Award, which recognizes outstanding work by a senior in chemistry or biochemistry. Chaora also earned the David A. Diener Mathematics Achievement Award. Established by the Department of Mathematics in honor of Dr. David Diener, professor of mathematics from 1968 to 2000, the award recognizes mathematics majors for excellence in the field.

Eldor Abdukhakimov of Zarafshan, Uzbekistan, and Sandro Makharashvili of Tbilisi, Georgia, each received The Detweiler Global Fund Award during the College's Honors Convocation held on April 30. Established by Hartwick President Emeritus Richard A. Detweiler and his wife, Carol, the award supports international students who demonstrate educational commitment through academic achievement and who have financial need in order to remain at and graduate from Hartwick College.

Ireayooluwa Otoki '26 of Ibadan, Nigeria, was presented with two awards during the College's Honors Convocation held on April 30. Otoki was awarded the E. Perrie Saxton '53 Scholarship. Established by the family and friends of Edna "Perrie" Perrine Saxton '53, a former nursing professor and department chair, the scholarship supports a rising junior or senior nursing student in either the three- or four-year degree program who demonstrates academic excellence and a commitment to improving community health. Additionally, Otoki received The Edith M. Lacey Memorial Nursing Scholarship. Established to memorialize Lacey, founder of the Hartwick nursing program and its director for nearly 18 years, the scholarship goes to a junior nursing student with demonstrated academic achievement and abilities (promise as a future nurse), personal deportment and other outstanding characteristics.

They serve as student assistants within their major department and receive a tuition credit. Additionally, Lynch was presented The Dr. Charles W. Leitzell Music Award. Established by a gift from Florence Bayreuther '39, a music education major during Dr. Leitzell's presidency at Hartwick College, the fund provides a scholarship to a senior woman music student chosen by the music faculty on the basis of need and ability who has demonstrated commitment to further music study.

Saxton Undergraduate Fellow in Nursing. Fellows are selected by faculty in each department to honor outstanding achievement in their respective fields. They serve as student assistants within their major department and receive a tuition credit. Additionally, Alvarenga received The Dr. James Elting H'13 Memorial Scholarship. Established in 2013 by family and friends of Dr. Elting, the scholarship is awarded to two students with a 3.0 GPA, demonstrating leadership in co-curricular activities and/or academics, and intending to pursue a career or graduate study in medicine, athletics, sports medicine, physical therapy, sports management, or another area related to medicine, healthcare, or athletics, and demonstrating financial need.

Bryce Rogers '27 of Fulton, N.Y., was presented with two awards during the College's Honors Convocation held on April 30. Rogers was recognized as an Andrew B. Saxton Undergraduate Fellow in Mathematics. Fellows are selected by faculty in each department to honor outstanding achievement in their respective fields. They serve as student assistants within their major department and receive a tuition credit. Additionally, Rogers was presented The Dr. David "Hutch" Hutchison Award. Established by Hutchison's student, Michael H. Young '83, the award goes to a rising junior or rising senior geology major for academic travel purposes including conferences, J Term programs, or thesis research. Selection is based on academic performance and financial need.

Makenna Ventuleth Earns Multiple Awards at Hartwick College's Honors Convocation

Makenna Ventuleth '27 of Worcester, N.Y., was celebrated for her academic achievements during Honors Convocation held April 30. Ventuleth was recognized as an Andrew B. Saxton Undergraduate Fellow in Chemistry. All scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their respective disciplines. Rising seniors are nominated by faculty in their major departments based on academic achievement, leadership and character. She also received The Carol A. Bocher and Earl E. Deubler, Jr. H'91 Scholarship. Established in 1988 upon the retirement of Dr. Carol Bocher and Dr. Earl Deubler, this award is given to a current second year biology student who shows outstanding potential for a career in a field related to biology. In addition, Ventuleth was awarded the Dr. Elizabeth V. Lamphere '38, H'97 Scholarship. Established through Lamphere's estate, the scholarship is awarded to a junior chemistry major with a GPA of at least 3.5 who is active in the Langmuir Chemical Society, also known as the Chem Club.

They serve as student assistants within their major department and receive a tuition credit. Additionally, Tubbs was presented The Otto Steinbach Memorial Scholarship in Chemistry. Established in memory of Chemistry Professor Dr. Otto Steinbach by his wife, Grace Steinbach '38, and former student Elizabeth Lamphere '38, H'97, this scholarship is awarded to a rising junior or senior chemistry or biochemistry major who has demonstrated high academic achievement.

Youngman '05 Award in Economics. Established by Gerald and Candace Youngman P'05 in memory of their son, the award goes to a rising junior or senior economics major for an off-campus internship or J Term experience. The recipient is selected by the economics faculty based on his or her demonstration of strong morals, an established work ethic, an enterprising spirit, engagement with the Hartwick College community and the community at large, and support for his or her fellow students and the faculty of the department.

Kylee Hosmer '26 of Boonville, N.Y., was celebrated for her achievements in art history during Hartwick College's Honors Convocation held April 30. Hosmer was named a Faculty Scholar in Art History. All scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their respective disciplines. Rising seniors are nominated by faculty in their major departments based on academic achievement, leadership and character. She also received the Dr. Robert E. and Mrs. Maryalice Mansbach Scholarship, established in 1991 by Charles Paul '72 and Carolyn Van Eps Paul '73 in honor of Robert Mansbach, a retired professor of religion. The award is presented to a student who has shown exceptional growth in the spirit of liberal education. In addition, Hosmer was presented the Semenenko Clark Award for Outstanding Junior Art History Paper. Established by Christine Semenenko P'09 to promote excellence in the Department of Art and Art History, funds support students as they excel in their chosen area.
