Hartwick College Women's Volleyball Places 8 Student-Athletes on Empire 8 Fall President's List

The Hartwick College Hawks placed 91 student-athletes on the Fall 2024 Empire 8 President's List, improving their total from last fall. The Empire 8 President's List award is recognized as one of the conference's highest honors. 8 of these student-athletes represent Hartwick College Women's Volleyball: Malia Dake, Emily Janik, Ellie Kalbach, Mallory Muglio, Sophia Palladino, Shelby Swartz, Arianna Thompson and Lucille Walker. In order to qualify, student-athletes must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher during the semester, display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full time while also participating in an NCAA-sponsored sport. All 17 Hartwick College teams had a member named to the President's List. Nine teams were selected to receive Empire 8 All-Academic Team honors including women's volleyball. Individual programs must post a team GPA of 3.2 or higher.

Molly Corbett made the President's List representing Women's Track & Field. Luca Montesano made the list representing Men's Track & Field and Lawrence McCumiskey made the list representing Men's Cross Country/Track & Field. Natalie Vredenburgh Named Empire 8 Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week

First-year women's basketball player Natalie Vredenburgh of Delhi, NY, made the most out of her return to her hometown, collecting two new career highs of 12 points and nine rebounds in the 63-30 triumph over SUNY Delhi. She was 5-of-7 from the floor, while adding an assist and a steal in 25 minutes of action. This earned Vredenburgh Empire 8 Rookie of the Week for December 16.

Joey Mclaurin Named Empire 8 Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week

First-year guard Joey Mclaurin of Mastic Beach, NY, scored a career-high 28 points, while draining seven shots from 3-point range in 28 minutes at Bard. This earned Mclaurin Empire 8 Rookie of the Week for December 16 and is his second E8 weekly accolade of the season. Mclaurin also won the award on Nov. 18.

Three Hartwick Hawks Named to Women's Volleyball CSC Academic All-District Team

College Sports Communicators announced their Academic All-District teams on Dec. 17 and three Hartwick Volleyball players received recognition. Staecia Silofau of Kapolei, Hawaii makes her third-straight appearance on a CSC Academic All-District team. The senior nursing major was second on the team in kills, fourth in digs, and third in total blocks. Shaelyn Thornton of Scarborough, Me. makes her second straight appearance. After transferring in from Colby Sawyer College for her sophomore year, the outside hitter and Public Health major made an immediate impact offensively and defensively for the Hawks. This past season, Thornton posted 230 kills, 27 aces, and 220 digs. Also making her second straight appearance is Shelby Swartz of Candor, N.Y. A Biology and Psychology double-major, Swartz led the team with 240 kills, was second in aces and digs with 39 and 234 respectively. All three Hawks earned Empire 8 All-Conference recognition while helping lead the team to their third 20-win in program history. In order to be eligible for both All-District consideration, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically, hold a 3.50 cumulative GPA or above and be a starter or important reserve for their respective teams.

Jules Pierre Selected as Empire 8 Football Sportsman of the Year

Jules Pierre '25 of West Babylon, NY, was recognized as Hartwick College's representative for the Empire 8 Sportsman of the Year Award on Nov. 21. One member of each Empire 8 team was named that institution's representative on the 2024 Football Sportsman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.

Conor Cosgrove Named Empire 8 Football Rookie of the Year

First-year wide receiver, Conor Cosgrove of Warwick, NY, picked up Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-Conference honors as voted upon by Empire 8 coaches. Cosgrove made an immediate impact for the Hawks, scoring his first collegiate touchdown in the team's season opening win at Maine Maritime on September 7. The Don Bosco Prep graduate would only improve from there, racking up 1,005 receiving yards with 7 touchdowns on the season.

Historic Achievement for Hartwick Volleyball's Braelyn Hornick

Senior setter, Braelyn Hornick of Candor, NY, becomes the first player in Hartwick College Volleyball history to be named to an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region First Team. The AVCA placed 203 student-athletes across ten regions on their All-Region Teams. Hornick was one of 14 First Team selections in Region 3. After having to take a year off due to injury, Hornick returned to the Hawks lineup, to orchestrate an offense that averaged 12.5 kills per set. The Empire 8 First Team honoree posted 858 assists and averaged 10.21 assists per set across 84 sets played. She also surpassed the 2,000 career assists mark on November 9. Hornick is no stranger to AVCA recognition, having earned All-Region Honorable Mention Honors in 2022 to go along with a National Player of the Week Honor that same season.

Gianna Leggieri Selected as Empire 8 Women's Tennis Sportswoman of the Year

Gianna Leggieri '27 of Ballston Lake, NY, was recognized as Hartwick College's representative for the Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year Award on Oct. 29. One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2024 Women's Tennis Sportswoman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. Hartwick College Student-Athletes Earn Empire 8 Women's Tennis All-Conference Honors

The Hartwick Hawks Women's tennis team was well represented on the Empire 8 All-Conference teams with six players earning recognition on Oct. 29. Newcomers, Alexandra Krasinska of Pine Island, NY, and Samantha Lantzy of Valatie, NY, highlight Hartwick's first team singles selections. Krasinska went 8-2 overall and 7-0 in conference play in her debut season, playing all season in the 1st singles spot. Lantzy split duties in her first year at 3rd and 4th singles, going 10-1 overall in the third spot and 2-0 in the 4th spot. She was also a perfect 8-0 in Empire 8 play. Phoebe Olson of Jamestown, ND, earned Second Team Singles honors after posting a 5-1 conference record in the 2nd singles slot. Joining Olson on the Single's Second Team is sophomore Gianna Leggieri of Ballston Lake, NY, playing in three different spots with an overall record of 11-1 and 8-0 in the Empire 8. Ryann Ashby of Malta, NY, and Lily Vanuga of Springville, NY, rounded out Hartwick's honorees as both received Third Team Singles nods. This recognition marks Ashby's fourth-straight all-conference selection in singles play. Vanuga, who went 5-2 in conference play, was also recognized as the Empire 8 Conference Tournament MVP. All six individuals also collected All-Conference Doubles Team Honors with their partners. Krasinska and Olson led the way with First Team honors as Hartwick's 1st doubles pairing. The 2nd doubles tandem of Ashby and Leggieri and 3rd doubles tandem of Vanuga and Lantzy both earned Second Team nods. All three of the Hawks' doubles teams went undefeated in conference play.

Hartwick College Earns Doubles Team of the Year Honors

Alexandra Krasinska '27 of Pine Island, NY, and Phoebe Olson '26 of Jamestown, ND, were recognized on Oct. 29 as the inaugural E8 Doubles Team of the Year, as voted upon by the conference coaches. Krasinska and Olson posted not only a perfect 6-0 record in Empire 8 play, but also a 9-0 overall record.

Alexandra Krasinska Selected as Player of the Year

Alexandra Krasinska '27 of Pine Island, NY, was recognized as the 2024 Empire 8 Women's Tennis Player of the Year on Oct. 29. This award is voted on by the league's head coaches. Krasinska went 8-2 overall in Hartwick's 1st singles slot and 7-0 in conference play. The first year was dominant against her Empire 8 opponents, winning all seven contests in straight sets.

Stella Giustino '25 of Monroe Township, NJ, was recognized as Hartwick College's representative for the Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year Award on Nov. 13. One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2024 E8 Women's Soccer Sportswoman of the Year Team. Katelyn Sanzone Selected as Empire 8 Field Hockey Sportswoman of the Year

Katelyn Sanzone '25 of Manlius, NY, was recognized as Hartwick College's representative for the Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year Award on Nov. 13. Hartwick College Student-Athletes Earn Empire 8 Field Hockey All-Conference Honors

The Hawks placed two players on the 2024 first team, two on the second team, and two on the third team on Nov. 13. First team selections, midfielders Hope Angioletti of Hopewell Junction, NY, and Ashley Tricarico of Hopewell Junction, NY, played crucial roles this season with Tricarico serving as the primary inserter on penalty corners as well as serving on the defensive penalty corner squad. Angioletti was a threat as well offensively, upping her offensive output from her first-year campaign. Danielle Hand of Queensbury, NY, makes her second career appearance on an Empire 8 All-Conference with Second Team honors in 2024. Last year's Empire 8 Rookie of the Year put up nearly identical numbers from her first-year campaign, with nine goals and four assists. Joining Hand on the Second Team was defender, Kiara Dolan of Cazenovia, NY. Dolan was a crucial piece of a Hartwick defensive line that allowed just 1.74 goals per game. She was also the team's flyer on the penalty corner defensive unit. Jessica Betts of South Glens Falls, NY, and Katelyn Klotz of South Glens Falls, NY, both make their first appearances on an Empire 8 All-Conference list, picking up Third Team honors. Betts led the team in points with 23 and goals with 10. Klotz stepped into the defensive midfielder position for the Hawks and also proved to be a threat offensively, recording two goals.

Arianna Thompson Selected as Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year

Arianna Thompson '25 of Hogansburg, NY, was recognized as Hartwick College's representative for the Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year Award on Nov. 13. One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2024 Women's Volleyball Sportswoman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.

Hartwick College Student-Athletes Earn Empire 8 Women's Volleyball All-Conference Honors

The Hawks placed seniors, Staecia Silofau of Kapolei, Hawaii, and Braelyn Hornick of Candor, NY, on the 2024 First Team. For Silofau this is her fourth-straight All-Conference nod and her second straight First Team appearance. The outside hitter was second on the team in kills with 236. Hornick returns to the First Team All-Conference list after a year off due to injury. In 2022, Hornick was named to the First Team in addition to earning Player of the Year honors. The setter made the most of her return to the lineup, collecting 858 assists, 41 kills, and 41 aces. She was also all over the floor defensively for the Hawks, leading the team in digs with 240. Junior, Shelby Swartz of Candor, NY, received Second Team honors after garnering Third Team recognition last season. The outside hitter led the squad in kills with 240. Rounding out Hartwick's selections was Shaelyn Thornton of Scarborough, ME, who makes her second appearance in a row on the Empire 8 Third Team. The senior recorded 230 kills, 27 aces, and collected 220 digs.

Hartwick College Student-Athletes Earn Empire 8 Men's Soccer All-Conference Honors

Jake Daly of Baldwinsville, NY, and Dante Gesamondo of Lynnfield, MA, headline the 2024 All-Conference selections for Hartwick, both being selected to the second team on Nov. 12. Daly enjoyed a stellar junior season, leading the team with four goals and five assists. Gesamondo was rock solid in between the posts, collecting a career high 65 saves to go with a 71% save percentage and five shutouts. Hunter Bulich of Catskill, NY, and Kwame Amissah-Arthur of Federal Way, WA, rounded out the All-Conference selections, being recognized on the third team.
